ABOUT ME, POCHOLO GONZALES
Choy," is a broadcast communications graduate student at the University of the Philippines (U.P.), Diliman.
He is a dedicated and multi-talented young leader who has been a freelance writer, reporter, voice-over talent, and radio talent for various companies such as ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corporation, Manila Broadcasting Company DZRH, Philippine Children's Television Foundation Inc. and National Office of Mass Media where he writes and works on productions that focus on children and youth affairs and volunteerism.


YOUTH PARTICIPATION
A working student, he was also an active youth coordinator and the youngest participant of the 2nd National Youth Parliament and 1st National Youth Summit or PAMBANSANG UGONG NG KABATAAN (PUNK) of the National Youth Commission and DSWD. He has been Deputy Volunteer of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), in-school volunteer of U.P. Ugnayan ng Pahinungod and National Historical Institute.

He has also contributed as a member and officer of PI SIGMA Fraternity, U.P. Red Cross and U.P. Tangway - an organization of U.P. students from Bataan and an active United Nations Volunteer. He founded the U.P. Speech Communication Society and KaBATAAN (Katipunan ng Kabataan ng Bataan) or Bataan Youth Society, for which the main goal was to promote Bataan as a tourist destination, environmental awareness and youth empowerment.

He participated in the 27th Ship for Southeast Asian Youth Program last year 2000, 3rd APEC Future Leaders Forum and was accepted as one of the representatives of the Philippines to the 36th International Youth Camp of UNESCO. This year he attended the Conference of Youth Leaders and will be attending the Melaka Youth Dialogue,37th International Youth Camp and 6th Arirang Youth Camp.
He was one of the co-convenor to the 3rd International Youth Conference held at the Philippine Normal University and Malacanang Palace last August 12 to 14 led by the United Nations Association of the Philippines (UNAP), the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization-Associated Schools Project (UNESCO-ASP), and Philippine Normal University (PNU).

"Youth Leadership for Global Citizenship and Sustainable Development" is the theme of this year's celebration. The activities lined up include a conference to be held at PNU highlighting the programs and policies of non-government and government agencies dealing with youth development.

He organized the Philippine Country Celebration of 4th GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY held in Balara, Quezon City last April 11-15, 2003, he was one of the head facilitator for Sangguniang Kabataan (YOUTH COUNCIL) National Federation National Eco-Youth Camp and Convention, Values Formation Workshop organized by SK Federation, O.P. Youth Affairs held in Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Subic, Olongapo City last April 9-11, 2003.

He was the main Reactor and Discussant for The Fifth National Social Science Congress (NSSC IV), What's With the Filipino Youth: Perspective from the Social Sciences, Philippine Social Science Congress at PSSC Center, Commonwealth Avenue, Diliman, Quezon City, Philippines last May 15-17, 2003.

He has been a the top participant for Young Leaders Program by the National Defense College of the Philippines, Institute for Extramural and Continuing Studies, National Defense College of the Philippines, the youngest delegate and Awardee of the 8th Open Conference on Cooperation for Responsible Citizenship and Corporate Governance and 1st Responsible Citizenship Fair by the Institute for Solidarity in Asia, the World Bank Institute and the Asia Pacific Association for Student Exchange (APASE) held at the Rizal Ballroom of the Makati Shangri-la last May 27, 2003.

Together with his Co-Founder and Vice-President of Voice of the Youth Network, they organized the Lian Youth Action Forum, with a theme "A Youth, Government, Business, Community and International Organization Partnership for Lian Development Youth Arises as Action Partners for Lian's Development held at Sea Breeze Rendezvous, Matabungcay Beach, Lian Batangas last May 28, 2003.

His greatest achievement as a youth advocate was already achieved when he got the 2003 Youth Action Net Awards by International Youth Foundation last June 12, 2003 and he is on his way to Baltimore, Maryland to attend the YouthActionNet Workshop on October 8 to 13, 2003.

He was the focal point of World Congress of Youth where he send Joan Villafuerte one of VOTY'S member to Morocco, together with the young people worldwide he proposed radical solutions on a range of globalisation issues, he was the focal point in the Philippines and with a simultaneous launched in 74 countries around the world he launched the book, Highly Affected Rarely Considered - the impacts of globalisation on young people at the United Nations Information Center, last July 19, 2003.

Sponsorship
The SSEAYP is carried out primarily by the Office of the Prime Minister of Japan through the Management and Coordination Agency-Youth Affairs Administration, with the active cooperation of the participating countries involved. In the Philippines, the program is being implemented by the Office of the President through the NYC.

As the primary sponsor of the program, the Japanese government shoulders the roundtrip airfare tickets of the participants to the first port of call and in going back totheir respective countries. Expenses for meals and accomodation on board the ship, transportation and admission fees required for study tours are also covered.

The participants bear pre-departure expenses such as passport fees, expenses in preparation for the cultural shows and rehearsals and pocket money for the duration of the program.
